SAILING & BOAT LAUNCHING AT RUDYARD LAKE

Rudyard Lake offers a simple and scenic setting for small boats and day sailing. With a Boat Day Launch Permit, visitors can bring their own craft and spend the day exploring the lake at their own pace.

Whether you’re sailing, enjoying a relaxed trip with family, or fishing from your boat, launching at Rudyard provides the freedom to move around the lake and enjoy the water from a different perspective.

The permit is suitable for small sailing boats and other non-commercial craft looking for a peaceful day afloat.

Sailing History

It was as late as 1956 that an organised sailing club (Rudyard Lake Sailing Club) was formed, initially using a member’s private chalet. The club soon outgrew that area and in 1958, with support from British Waterways (now the Canal and River Trust), moved into the Lodge, which stands behind the current clubhouse on Reacliffe Road on the west shore.

HRH Princess Anne officially opened the new building in 2003…

Eventually a new clubhouse was constructed in front of the Lodge and the beach area cleared to allow further expansion of the club. By 2000, plans were underway to construct a new clubhouse with much improved facilities, especially with regards to the needs of disabled sailors. HRH Princess Anne officially opened the new building in 2003. The Club has various levels of membership and has a thriving junior section; for more information visit: rlsc.rudyardlakesc.org.uk.
