Visitor
Centre: Located in a converted boathouse at the damhead,
it opened in 2001 and provides visitors with an overview of
Rudyard Lake, its history, wildlife and flora and fauna using
both interpretive panels and computers. It is open throughout
the summer months and at weekends from October to March. There
is no entry charge.
Shop/café: The new café is located in
the Activity Centre and is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to
Friday during the summer months and until 6pm at weekends.
During the period October to March it is open at the weekends
only from 10am to 5pm.
Activity
Centre: Meeting rooms are available for hire throughout
the year. Rates vary depending on requirements - but what
a place for that 'get away from it all' meeting! Please enquire
through the contacts page. Corporate
events are encouraged using both the rooms and the lake.
Car parking: The damhead car park, located off Lake
Road, has parking for around 40 vehicles. Charges are £1
for one hour, £2 for four hours or £3 for a full
day. There is a Pay+Display machine, which can also be used
to purchase tickets for angling day tickets and boat launching.
Toilets/changing rooms: Available at the damhead car
park.
Rudyard
Lake Steam Railway: This starts from the car park located
about 500 metres south of the damhead. This is a free car
park managed by Staffordshire County Council. The railway
runs most weekends and weekdays during the summer months.
For further information please see the contacts
page.
Cycling: The total distance round the Lake is about
five miles and you can cycle most of the way apart from the
northwest area where signs request cyclists to dismount while
crossing private property.
Walking:
The Staffordshire Way runs along the western side of the lake
and forms part of an easy walk around the lake of about five
miles.
Wildlife/bird watching: Many people visit Rudyard
Lake to see its abundant wildlife and birds, many of which
use Rudyard as a feeding ground during their long migratory
journey. The northern mudflats exposed during the water draw
down over the summer months provide rich pickings for many
species.
Sailability: The lake offers special facilities for
disabled people and those with learning difficulties, with
assistance and expert instruction provided by fully qualified
volunteers. Access to boats is made easy by a special hoist
attached to the lakeside pontoon. The training centre has
been fully approved by the Royal Yachting Association. Further
information can be obtained from Dennis Priebe on 01782 853
721.
